Meet Natalie

Natalie Bornfleth has deep roots in the 26th Legislative District. Raised as a Navy brat by a single mom, she attended South Kitsap Public Schools and went on to become a first-generation college graduate, earning degrees from Washington State University, the University of Washington, and Olympic College.

Natalie is a veteran who served six years on active duty in the Air Force as a Logistics Officer. After her military service, she worked as a Nuclear Test Pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where she was a member of Bremerton Metal Trades Council. In the years since, she earned her master’s degree in education and now serves as a public school teacher in the South Kitsap School District. She has been a union member for 11 years, building a career centered on service, education, and advocacy for working families.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Natalie has taken on multiple leadership roles within her union and the broader education community. She currently serves as a SKEA Executive Board Member-at-Large, Uniserv Representative for WEA Olympic, Local Delegate to the WEA Representative Assembly, and State Delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly.

Natalie’s background reflects a lifelong commitment to public service, organized labor, and educational opportunity. Her experience as a teacher, veteran, union leader, and worker has shaped her understanding of the challenges facing students, families, and working people across South Kitsap and the 26th Legislative District. She is running for State Representative to be a strong voice for our community in Olympia. Natalie lives in Port Orchard with her husband and son.

Natalie’s Priorities for Olympia

Education Our Children Deserve

I believe every child deserves access to a strong public education, no matter their zip code. As a public school teacher, I have seen firsthand how much students, educators, and families are being asked to do with too few resources.

I will fight for fully funded public schools, stronger support for special education, safer and more supportive learning environments, and policies that respect and retain educators. Our schools should open doors for every student and give every child the opportunity to succeed.

Lowering the Cost of Living

Working families are being squeezed from every direction by the rising cost of housing, child care, groceries, and health care. I will work to lower the cost of living by creating and supporting more affordable housing, expanding access to child care, and pursuing a pathway toward universal health care so families can get the care they need without fear of crushing medical bills.

Health care should be treated as a basic right, not a privilege tied to income or employment. I support building a system that moves us closer to universal coverage, lowers out-of-pocket costs, expands preventive care, and makes prescription drugs and essential services more affordable for Washington families.

Strengthening Economy & Supporting Workers

I know the dignity of work matters, and I believe our economy should work for the people who keep our communities running. I will stand up for workers’ rights, protect collective bargaining, support apprenticeships and career pathways, and fight for fair wages and safe working conditions.

As a union member, I understand how important it is to protect the right to organize and to make sure workers have a voice on the job. When workers are supported, families are stronger and communities are more resilient.
